Country Traditional

The owners of this lovely Connecticut “farmhouse” have a passion for roses and have cultivated a number of rare varieties. APLD was asked to transform their estate property into a more formal series of gardens to showcase their roses within classical parterres around a central water feature.

A natural stone terrace was added to achieve an open flow into the garden from the living room, increasing the space for entertaining as well as enjoyment of the gardens.

Decomposed granite pathways lead through the formal gardens to a more informally planted garden. Privacy was also a prerequisite. APLD designed a natural stone wall to enclose the property, softened with climbing roses and miniature parterres as seen from the street.
